Dental Care for Children

At what age should my child visit the dentist for the first time?

We recommend that children first visit the dentist either when the first tooth erupts, or at about the time of their first birthday.

We may very well not need to see them again after that until the rest of their teeth erupt (around age three), but bringing them in for an initial visit at an early age will help us diagnose, and then monitor and/or treat, any emerging issues.

How often should children visit the dentist?

Children should visit the dentist twice a year for a routine check up and hygiene cleaning, just like adults. Depending on your child's needs, the dentist may recommend more frequent visits.

Sedation for Children

For children who get anxious or fearful about visiting the dentist, we offer sedation for dentistry as an option to help ease their fears. To help your child feel more relaxed, we can provide either oral sedation to be taken before the appointment, or nitrous-oxide gas that can be administered during their appointment.

We typically recommend the nitrous oxide for children, as it wears almost off immediately.
